God is in the Detail
Architect Mies van der Rohe said God was in the detail, and in this house it very definitely is. But it’s not the kind of detail you add once the builders have cleared off.
This one has clearly been thought through from planning the extension to dropping the cushions on the sofas.
You can see this because the design principles and ideas stretch throughout the house, creating rooms that are both part of the whole and distinct individual spaces.
While parts of the house in the original building have been successfully remodelled to fit the concept of the whole, it is the contemporary aesthetic that links everything together. However, it is the individualism of each room that makes this home ooze character along with the modern lines.
The master bedroom in particular stands out as space that enjoys it owns character and gives the home owner an adult space away from children where they can enjoy life beyond simply being in bed.
The step down in to the room from the main house, the gallery landing accessed via a spiral stair case, the en-suite and the wardrobe that wraps around it are simple, elegant and thoughtful.
